Many of you know Andy as a track official, the person at the All-Comers meets saying "keep track of your own laps if you've been lapped", but at the ATC, Andy is the registrar and the database manager....or the man who assigns the race numbers! Besides running, Andy's interests include car racing and stamp collecting, but running(track and field and cross country in particular) are his passion. Continually on the pulse of running worldwide, Andy follows cross country and track like Pete Van Weiren follows baseball stats...he knows PR's, names and schools and is involved in every contest or poll conducted. Before arriving at the ATC in 1999, Andy was in the shipping and receiving business with a women's designer shoe company and an aromatherapy business. Andy moved to Atlanta in 1992 from Maryland where he grew up. Andy attended Roanoke College where he earned a BA in History and a minor in Secondary Education...after an unsuccessful try at teaching, Andy moved out to Oregon(Eugene, where else?) to teach and go to graduate school. Andy moved back to MD 2 years later and worked as an auditor for Ford Motor Credit Co. before coming to Atlanta. Andy has been running for almost 30 years. He started running in elementary school to make his school's relay team, and once he started, he never stopped. Andy ran cross country and track in Jr.and Senior High and continued to compete while in college. At Roanoke, Andy ran a school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:17) that lasted one week. He also ran a 4:29 mile. Andy also likes to road race. While in Maryland he was a very active member of the Montgomery County Road Runners club where he coordinated the Wednesday night speed work-outs and organized teams for the annual 24 hour relay. Andy was named MCRRC Runner of the Year in 1985. Andy has run 14 marathons and 3 50K's and hopes someday to qualify for Boston again. He ran in the 100th Boston Marathon in 1996. Being around track and field and running makes Andy the happiest. Andy is a National Level USATF official; and has worked many collegiate national and international events. Highlights include being chief lap counter at the 1997 NCAA Championships, the 2000 USATF Indoor Nationals and lap scorer at the 2001 USATF Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Or. and the Outdoor Nationals in Stanford, Ca. Andy hopes to be selected to work at the Olympic Trials....if not, you know where you can find him????...in the stands Andy also coaches cross country and track at Milton High School. At the Ray Miller Invitational Cross Country Meet in September, 2005, his girls team won the meet, and his boys team finished second. The meet was held at Magnolia Springs State Park near Millen |
